Design

The obverse design features the portrait of Charlemagne Peralte and on the outer periphery are the words “REPUBLIQUE D'HAITI” and the year of issue.

The reverse design features the Haiti Coat of Arms. On the outer periphery are the words “LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE” or liberty, equality, fraternity . Below the Coat of Arms is the number “5” that is representative of the denomination.

Types

Though only issued for three individual years, there are two type coins that exist not because of design but due to composition.

Type 1 - Composition of copper/nickel/zinc – 1986
Type 2 - Composition of nickel plated steel – 1995 & 1997
