I have a nice clear 1902 half penny centavo filipinas that I can't find. they say 1903 was the first year. got any news for me?

The bill that commissioned (authorized) coinage and the search for a coin design was not signed by Theodore Roosevelt until 1902 so having a coin with that year is questionable. I am by far no expert on Philippine coinage but the timing seems to be off, if I had to guess you have a very good modification from a true coin minted 1903 to 1908.

Without seeing the coin there may be another possibility. Is it the exact same coin design, legend, size, and weight? If not it is possible that it was a trial piece that was used during the selection process by the U.S. Mint.
