Hello,
In 2010 I corresponded briefly with the English numismatic artist, designer and sculptor, Norman Sillman. He is correctly credited with designed the reverses of Zambia's pre-decimal and first decimal coins. Because I had never heard of D.A.H. Byatt, I asked if he knew who he was. Mr Sillman was amused to hear that Mr Byatt was supposed to be an artist. In fact, he was merely a cvil servant at the Royal Mint, which in those days was still based in London. Mr Sillman told me that he himself most definitely designed the Kaunda portrait, of which he is very proud. I forwarded Mr Sillman's words to the Standard Catalog of World Coins, and they changed the name of the designer of the Kaunda portrait to Norman Sillman, both in their catalogue and on their website, Numismaster.
