Hey, I enjoy collecting high quality digital images of coins and I like some of the images on this site. Does anybody else enjoy the hobby in this way, or does anyone know where I can get some high quality images? I have a very thorough US type set collection so far.

Sites with high quality pics is usually PCGS and Heritage but sometimes you get luck at http://www.coinpage.com/index.html

On this site you could see how we evolved over time. We started out with a 1.3mp camera & scanner, moved up to 3mp camera and now use a 6mp Sony. Would love to move up to an SLR with macro lens but just can't afford it right now.

Yes, SLR with Macro is the way to go, I want one also. Good lighting is helpful too.

I used to think the type of lighting was important but what I've discovered that it is not so much the type of light (your white balance can adjust for that) but the angle of the light. Some coins you will want the light reflected off the coin towards the lens, some reflected away and some will be ambient light. After enough practice you start to get a feel for which coin compositions, finishes and even grades work with which lighting angle.

One of the most important things is playing around with fstop & shutter speeds. If you can get a good handle on these you are on the way to some nice photos.
