The obverse, designed by George W. DeSaulles, features the bust image of King Edward VII facing right. On the outer periphery are the words "EDWARDVS VII D.G. REX IMPERATOR" (latin for "By the Grace of God, King and Emperor").
The reverse features a wreath & crown that encircles the words "5 CENTS CANADA" with the date below.

Excluding die & error varieties, there are no keys to the series but attention may be given to 1903 & 1908 issues with mintages of only 1,000,000 and 1,220,524.
