Collecting by century represents the most coin variety for collectors of Canadian coinage. The Royal Canadian Mint has always been extremely active providing collectors with a vast range of coin designs, compositions, & shapes. Looking at the 20th Century Sets there are 111 different coins and if you chase down the major varieties the list grows to 159 coins and that is not even including circulating gold coins coins which would further expand that total to 163 coins.
Luckily for collectors all the coins in the sets provided herein are readily available though there are a few challenge coins (like the 1947 Maple Leaf Dollar) that will be push the wallet implying some rarities exist in the set. But these are coins you will find available at coin stores or auctions and something we would not classify as unobtainable.
This set is challenging enough to possibly take years to complete. Yet, at the same time is affordable and achievable for both beginners and veteran collectors. It is the volume & variety that present most of the challenge and if you live outside of Canada (like the U.S.) you will discover that common modern issue coins may be more difficult than the more expensive pieces.
Note: all checklists are in MS Excel format, if you want a list in a format other than Excel then please leave a post in the Forums.
